University of Roehampton London
sinceThe University of Roehampton is a modern university located in south-west London, near the affluent and picturesque Richmond. The university campus is well connected to central London by public transport. It is also just a short walk from Richmond Park, which is home to deer herds and extensive cycle paths.
Whitelands College, the first teacher training college established in 1841, laid the foundation for the university. Southlands College, founded in the 1970s, now on a modern campus, is also an institution founded in the 1870s: Digby Stuart College, founded in 1874; Froebel College, founded in 1892; and Digby Stuart College, founded in 1874 each of which thousands of students attend. The four institutions merged in 1975 to form the Roehampton Institute of Higher Education, which in 2011 became the University of Roehampton.
There is only one parkland campus in central London at the university. Over 350,000 books are available in the university's library, along with e-books and electronic journals. Aside from the Jewish Resource Centre Collection and the Richmal Crompton Collection of books, the library houses archive material accumulated by the author Richmal Crompton during his lifetime. Darren Shan, the author of Cirque du Freak, is a former student of England rugby captain Chris Robshaw.
