Within conservation science there is increasing recognition of the value of genetic data to support management decisions. However, scientists and managers with the skills and knowledge to apply population genetic theory to conservation practice are lacking. Within this arena, wildlife forensics is an exciting new field that is attracting increasing global attention in the fight against the illegal wildlife trade. Theoretical and practical learning The PPD/Cert/Dip/MSc in Applied Conservation Genetics with Wildlife Forensics aims to provide a blend of theoretical and practical education in the application of genetic data to wildlife management and conservation law enforcement. The programme will cover all essential aspects, from population genetic theory and data analysis to the considerations involved in the interpretation and transfer of scientific findings to management, policy and criminal investigation.

For international students

A UK 2:1 honours degree, or its international equivalent, in biological, biochemical, forensic science or veterinary sciences or a related science discipline. IELTS Academic: total 6.5 with at least 6.0 in each component. TOEFL-iBT (including Special Home Edition): total 92 with at least 20 in each section.

Sustainability and Social Impact Scholarships

Value of scholarship

Up to 30 scholarships for incoming postgraduate students applying to follow a full-time programme at the University of Edinburgh’s Business School; Funding: tuition-fee waivers between £5000 and £10000.

How to applay

Eligible applicants should complete an online scholarship application. In order to gain access to the scholarship application system, applicants must have applied for admission to the University of Edinburgh. Please note that, following the submission of an application for admission, it can take up to five working days for all system checks to be completed and for access to be granted. Deadlines Round A : 24 April 2023; Round B : 05 June 2023

The University of Edinburgh Business School is offering up to 20 scholarships covering part of the fees for Masters students commencing study in September 2023. The scholarships will be awarded to candidates who are committed to social responsibility and sustainability, especially within the business environment. The Business School are offering up to 20 scholarships between £5,000 and £10,000 covering part of the tuition fees for Masters students. These awards will be tenable for one academic year and will be automatically paid towards your tuition fee. You can only apply for the scholarship once you have received an offer (conditional or unconditional) to join one of the eligible programmes and have either firmly accepted the offer or be intending to do so. The scholarship selection panel can only consider your application if you hold an active offer throughout your scholarship application process (meaning if your offer is declined at any point up until the scholarship decision deadline you will no longer be eligible). You can only apply for the scholarship once per admissions cycle. The Sustainability and Social Impact Scholarships will be awarded to candidates who: Can demonstrate their commitment to social responsibility and sustainability through previous action and support either within the business setting specifically, or in a wider sense. Continue to aspire to make a difference within social responsibility and sustainability through their future personal and career goals. Have sound academic credentials.
