The MA Arts and Project Management course helps you explore how arts organisations, cultural spaces, and visual and performing arts projects are managed in different social and economic environments. You will be introduced to arts policies in different regional and national and circumstances while gaining advanced organisational, planning and marketing skills. This prepares you for life as a professional project manager, a PhD researcher or to work in other career sequels. This stimulating course offers you a specialist education in Arts and Project Management. You will be encouraged to develop your knowledge and understanding in order to be effective in managing and marketing the arts within contemporary culture. As you study this course you will develop a set of transferrable skills such as creative problem solving, communication and presentation skills, adaptability and flexibility, independence and teamwork, and good time management. This stimulating course offers you a specialist education in Arts and Project Management. You will be encouraged to develop your knowledge and understanding in order to be effective in managing and promoting the arts within contemporary culture. There is scope to work on live projects with external clients such as Selfridges and you will benefit from our close links with Ikon, Eastside Projects, New Art Gallery Walsall, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, and the lively alternative arts scene including: The Lombard Method, Grand Union, Trove, Stryx and MSFAC. Our academic staff team is highly experienced. Programme leader, Beth Derbyshire has 20 years’ experience working in the creative industries as an inter-disciplinary artist and Creative Director in Design and Brand Development. The staff team has national and international research profiles including the artist/curator, Mona Casey who has extensive experience in the creative industries and Kathryn Burns who supports entrepreneurs and small arts businesses.

For international students

Applicants are normally expected to have a minimum of a 2:2 honours degree, or equivalent, in Fine Art, Art and Design, or another Arts-based subject. IELTS 6.0 overall with no less than 5.5 in each band, or equivalent. TOEFL overall score – 80, reading 20 , Listening 18 , Speaking 21, writing 19

About

Birmingham City University (BCU) has a long and rich history of education in the city, dating back to its beginnings as the Birmingham College of Art in 1843. By 1971 it had become a polytechnic university, and in 1992 it was granted full university status. In 2007 it was rebranded as BCU.
BCU offers courses in art and design, business, the built environment, computing, education, engineering, English, health care, law, social sciences, technology and the performing arts across its four faculties and three campuses. Their academic staff maintain close links with their respective industries, and many have achieved prominence in their fields; for example, the UK’s leading criminologist and the first female president of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
The university's greatest strength is arguably its creative and performing arts programmes. It houses the Birmingham Government School of Design, which was the first college of design to open outside of London in 1843, as well as the Birmingham School of Music (now the Birmingham Conservatoire, opened in 1886). This puts BCU in a leading position within the UK’s higher education landscape.
BCU's student body of 25,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students includes half from the West Midlands, the majority of whom come from ethnic minorities. BCU was the first university in Europe to launch a Black Studies undergraduate degree to study the history, social movements and contributions of people of African descent.
