MEngSc in Engineering Management

This Masters is about developing the knowledge and skills needed by graduate engineers in order to pursue successful careers as engineering managers in a wide range of international industries and sectors. Designed around five key engineering management themes (Operations & Supply Chain Excellence, Analytics & "Big Data", Business & Management, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Industry Applications), the programme also enhances participants existing technical skills through the provision of advanced technical option modules to develop their undergraduate disciplinary knowledge base. Designed around five core themes, the programme addresses the principle engineering management challenges involved in the design, operations and management of international technology companies This programme is delivered by the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering which has 50 years' experience in teaching Engineering Management. Vision and Values Statement This programme is aimed at students who have already completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and wish to embark on successful careers in the management of global engineering and technology firms. This one-year Masters degree provides grounding in operations, quality, marketing, systems planning, and analysis while building on student’s technical expertise to develop the next generation of industry leaders. We seek to develop creative problem solvers who can critically analyse problems in a business context and propose and develop practical and feasible solutions. Our teaching methods and learning environment are highly interactive and varied and include lectures, workshops, tutorials, labs, and practical exercises. Group-based modular projects and a final applied company-based consultancy project enable students to integrate the covered theoretical knowledge with practice. All of these unique features are the key elements in the programme’s design and success over the years. Careers & Employability Career opportunities are very broad as the MEngSc Engineering Management students are not narrow technical specialists but “T-shaped” individuals combining specialist skills with a broad understanding of the business environment. Apart from the usual engineering discipline-specific job opportunities based on their Bachelor degree, the students accomplishing this one-year Master degree will be equipped with enough knowledge and experience to pursue a career related to the job positions such as, quality analyst, data analyst, operations analyst, supply chain planner, buyer, project management, quality control and assurance, continuous improvement analyst, business analyst, business process planner, capacity planning analyst, maintenance planner. The acquired skill sets are invaluable when embarking upon careers in many sectors including energy, consumer goods, medical technology, management consulting, ICT and automotive. Prospective employers include Accenture, SAP, Maxim Integrated, Boston Scientific, Microsoft, PwC, Deloitte, Accenture and many more. From 31 May 2017 onwards, the students from the non-EEA regions accomplishing this one-year Master degree are eligible to reside and apply for work in Ireland upon changing their student visa stamp (Stamp 2) to Stamp 1G under Third Level Graduate Programme. This new immigration arrangement exempts the students from the requirement to possess an employment permit from the Department of Business, Enterprise, and Innovation (terms and conditions apply).
