International management is the practice of managing business, not-for-profit, governmental, or other entity's operations across countries. International management professionals are familiar with the language, culture, economic and political environment and business practices of countries in which multinational firms operate. They have the skills needed to formulate effective management strategies in today’s globally competitive environment.
About the International Management Major
Students majoring in international management study issues in international management, introduction to international management, global financial management, cross-cultural management practices, industrial location & globalization of enterprise, management in world history, cross-cultural marketing, the politics of Canadian trade policy, issues in international management, regional aspects of international management, law & institutions of international trade, sustainable tourism, environmental management, and cultural work study. Students draw from fields such as history, English, political science, economics and sociology.
Our international management students learn about cross-cultural management practices and how work behaviour differs throughout the world. They also study international aspects of business, trade, marketing, finance and economic systems, develop fluency in a second language, and gain cross-cultural experience. An International Management major allows students to hone the skills needed to meet the challenges of doing business internationally and build a network of personal contacts across the globe.
We also offer the flexibility of dual campuses on which to study: Lethbridge and Calgary. Our Calgary campus will meet the needs of working professionals with evening and weekend classes, while the Lethbridge campus is more traditional with an emphasis on daytime classes and a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities to explore. Both locations welcome international and mature students.

International Management majors go on to work in a variety of work environments - both internationally and domestically. Graduates work in the private sector, government, post-secondary education, and as entrepreneurs. We have graduates working in the diplomatic corps, in government, as lawyers, as professors, in college and university international offices, in international development agencies, in the oil and gas sector, and as small business owners. Students choose international management because of the breadth of training, their strong interest in global management issues, and their desire to experience the world while gaining valuable management training.
