This is a course-based program. Students are required to complete a minimum of ?51 in graded coursework, including a ?24 clinical practicum and a ?6 research project, and a non-credit instructional methods course. Required Coursework including practicum courses (?45): Year 1: ANAT 500 - Human Development ANAT 503 - Human Anatomy LABMP 500 - Introduction to Human Disease LABMP 593 - Systemic Pathology LABMP 594 - Anatomic Pathology Techniques LABMP 595 - Laboratory Management LABMP 596 - Pathologists' Assistant Clinical Practicum I Year 2: LABMP 597 - Pathologists' Assistant Clinical Practicum II LABMP 598 - Pathologists' Assistant Clinical Practicum III LABMP 599 - Pathologists' Assistant Clinical Practicum IV Research Project to be completed in Year 2 (?6) LABMP 900 - Research Project Seminar Requirement: Students must attend specified seminars and make one or more oral presentations as specified by the Department. Ethics Requirement: Course-based students in the Department of laboratory Medicine & Pathology fulfill the FGSR Academic Integrity and Ethics Training Requirement by completing the following: Ethics and Scientific Integrity (ESI) Day offered by the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and one of: Online Graduate Ethics Training class LABMP 530 or 535 Another approved graduate-level university ethics course Submission of a completed ethics review application HSLAS (Health Sciences Laboratory Animal Services) training course Tri-council Ethics Tutorial Professional Development Requirement: Students in the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology must satisfy the FGSR Professional Development Requirement. Length of Program: The course and practicum-based MSc with specialization in Pathologists' Assistant is a continuous 24 month program which includes a 16-month clinical practicum.

For international students

The Department's minimum admission requirements are a baccalaureate degree with an admission GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution. English language requirement: internet-based TOEFL score of 95 with at least 21 per section; or IELTS (Academic) score of 7.0 with at least 6 on each band; or PTE (Academic) score of 65 with a minimum band score of 60; or CAEL score of 70 with at least 70 on each subtest. The application and documents deadline for Fall admission is April 1.

Superior Academic Achievement Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine - Particularly in the Speech-Language Pathology Specialization Student must be continuing in the program Based on demonstrated superior academic achievement Based on demonstrated superior clinical achievement Based on strong research potential Based on intellectual curiosity and passion for learning If there are no suitable candidates conducting stuttering research, students conducting research relating to the management of dementia and other neurologically based communication disorders will be considered The scholarship may not be held concurrently with other scholarships relating to stuttering The award is intended to assist in the execution and publication of a research project, thesis or dissertation in the area of stuttering, with preference given to projects that have potential to advance clinical practice This award is non-renewable The department may choose to offer this scholarship as 2 x CAN $2,500 at the Master's Level, or 1 x CAN $5,000 at the PhD Level Open to Canadian citizens.
