The University of Winnipeg offers the only degree-granting program in Early Childhood Education in Manitoba. Stream C is a professional program in the area of developmental studies specifically designed for those who wish to obtain advanced early childhood education training.
This joint program is offered in cooperation with either Red River College or the Université de SaintBoniface. The strength of this program is that it capitalizes on the expertise of each institution, providing a blend of academic and practical experience. You may begin the program at any of the three institutions.
As a student in Stream C, you choose one area of specialization - either Inclusion or Child Care Administration. You also take courses from a variety of different departments, as Development Studies is an interdisciplinary program that draws perspectives and methods from many disciplines.
This program leads to a 3-year Bachelor of Arts degree in Developmental Studies from The University of Winnipeg and a 2-year Diploma in Early Childhood Education from Red River College or the Université de Saint-Boniface—in only four years. Under the Manitoba Department of Families, graduates of this stream are eligible for the highest level of classification–Early Childhood Educator III.
