The School of Medicine and Public Health is committed to ongoing support of PhD and Research Masters candidates. We provide a high standard of research supervision, as well as research degree candidates with material resources including financial support, laptop computers, office space and equipment, and writing and presentation skills workshops.

For international students

An applicant for admission to candidature for a Doctoral Degree (Research) shall: i) have satisfied all of the requirements for admission to the degree of Bachelor with Honours Class 1 or Honours Class II, Division 1 or any other degree approved for this purpose by the Assistant Dean (Research Training); or ii) have satisfied all of the requirements for admission to the degree of Bachelor in the University or any other degree approved for this purpose by the Assistant Dean (Research Training), and have achieved by subsequent work and study a standard recognized by the Assistant Dean (Research Training) as equivalent to at least Honours Class II, Division 1; or iii) in exceptional cases submit evidence of possessing such other academic or professional qualifications and/or experience as may be approved by the Assistant Dean (Research Training) on the recommendation of the relevant School; or iv) in the disciplines of education, medical physics, nursing, social work, social sciences and surgery have completed a minimum standard of professional experience as required by the Assistant Dean (Research Training) on the recommendation of the School; An Australian honours degree with Class 1 or Class 2 division 1. For international students, a four-year bachelors degree including a significant research training component attained at a high standard, is commonly considered equivalent to an Australian honours degree. TOEFL paper-based test score of 550; TOEFL internet based score of 79; IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5; PTE GSE score of 58; Cambridge English: Advanced score of 58.

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria: Be commencing study in an eligible program at the University of Newcastle in 2023 and beyond at an Australian or online campus as indicated on your Letter of Offer Be an International full-fee paying student. Not be the beneficiary of a separate University scholarship unless prior approval for special dispensation has been obtained from the university. Meet all of the financial obligations of a full-fee paying international student, including the full tuition fee and other expenses for the purpose of obtaining your student visa, and in the event that eligibility for the scholarship is not maintained.
