If you are seeking to make the transition from a science or mathematics-based career to become an engineer, or if you already have an engineering degree and would like to change paths to a different specialisation, the Master of Professional Engineering offers an accredited qualification that will enable you to practise in Australia and overseas. The chemical and biomolecular specialisation explores industrial processes in which material in bulk undergoes physical of chemical changes. This degree will also help you develop the sound communication, management and decision-making capabilities necessary to interpret and discuss complex issues in your area of specialisation. The program will provide you with the engineering professional practice and research skills that lead to recognition as an Australian graduate engineer. Your qualifications will be recognised internationally through the Washington Accord of the International Engineering Alliance. Research activities in the faculty focus on a wide range of areas from aerospace, biomedical, combustion, processing and manufacture, design, robotics, electronics, networks, wireless and satellite systems. If you would like to be part of Sydney's engineering research community, you may consider applying for admission to a research degree. Students completing a Master of Professional Engineering program with excellent average marks are eligible to undertake supervised research in the degree of Master of Philosophy or Doctor of Philosophy. Graduate opportunities Engineers working in this field may specialise as combustion engineers, petroleum engineers, chemical engineers, smelting engineers, water treatment engineers or environmental engineers. There is also scope for chemical and biomolecular engineers to move into related areas including biotechnology, food engineering and mineral engineering.

For international students

To be eligible for admission, an applicant is required to have: an Australian Bachelor of Engineering degree with a 65 percent average, or equivalent qualification or an Australian bachelor's degree in a non-Engineering discipline with a 65 percent average, with studies equivalent to 48 credit points (equivalent to 1 year full time study load) in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, computing or statistics, as related to the stream sought for admission. IELTS score: A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing Pearsons Test of English: A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
