In this innovative course, we focus on the knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to remain current with technological breakthroughs and to drive innovation in illumination design in the future. As a student of Illumination Design, you will develop your expertise in lighting for architectural and urban environments. You will understand how rapidly-evolving sustainable lighting technologies are changing industry practise and are contributing to new opportunities for creative applications of modern materials, colours and technologies. This course will develop your understanding of the relationship between lighting and allied-build environment disciplines as well as the interaction of optics, psychology and physiology. You will be given the preparation you need to adapt to technological changes and lead future breakthroughs. Graduate opportunities Graduates of this course are working at lighting design firms, engineering companies, lighting equipment manufacturers, architectural and design practices, lighting distributors, and as private consultants. Completion of the Graduate Diploma often leads to further study in this field, and you may also use the degree as the foundation for a research degree in illumination design.

For international students

Admission to this course requires: a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification; or completion of the requirements of the embedded graduate certificate with a weighted average mark of at least 70 across all units attempted for the award. Graduate Diploma students may apply to upgrade to the Masters at the completion of their program (with a weighted average mark of at least 70). IELTS score: A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing Pearsons Test of English: A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
