The Master of Professional Engineering (Accelerated) is the ideal two-year full-time degree for those engineers who have previously graduated with an undergraduate engineering degree in a related field seeking recognised accreditation to practice in Australia and overseas. In the geomechanical specialisation you’ll learn to examine soil and rock layers and determine their physical and chemical properties to design foundations and earthworks structures. This accelerated version of our Master of Professional Engineering degree is designed to provide you with deep technical skills in your chosen field of engineering combined with professional development in the areas of communication, leadership, and time and resource management. It will also help you develop the sound communication, management and decision-making capabilities necessary to interpret and discuss complex issues in your area of specialisation. The program will provide you with the engineering professional practice and research skills that lead to recognition as an Australian graduate engineer. Career Pathways Career paths for geomechanical engineering graduates include investigating sites to find out what is under the ground, designing foundations, planning and designing of road, rail and canal cuttings, offshore work investigating and designing cable routes, pipelines, foundations for offshore facilities and design of landfills for society's waste products. Research activities in the faculty focus on a wide range of areas from aerospace, biomedical, combustion, processing and manufacture, design, robotics, electronics, networks, wireless and satellite systems. Students completing a Master of Professional Engineering program with excellent average marks are eligible to undertake supervised research in the degree of Master of Philosophy or Doctor of Philosophy.

To be eligible for admission, an applicant is required to have: an Australian Bachelor of Engineering degree with a 65 percent average, or equivalent qualification, in a related field of engineering to which the student is applying. IELTS score: A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band TOEFL - IBT score: A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing Pearsons Test of English: A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
