Artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, the internet of things, among many recent trends in technology have created new challenges and opportunities for creating new products. However, too many recent products focus solely on technology, resulting in useless ‘gadgets’, while many are entirely driven by what customers ‘say they want’, resulting in ‘yet another app’ that fails to benefit from novel technologies and stand out in a crowded market.
This MicroCert brings inquiry-led human-centred?design?methods together with invention-led technology-driven?methods to equip you to create exciting, user-friendly products that utilise new technologies and solve real problems.
Developed in collaboration with MAKE Studios and taught by experts in the field, the course covers how to design new interactive products for the latest trends of technological opportunities, teaching you how to push ideas into adventurous spaces enabled by emerging technologies.
The course also features an immersive workshop where you will have the opportunity to try novel technologies and engage in hands-on making and design thinking activities.

Learning experience
This blended course involves a range of interactive online activities (including video) and a highly immersive face-to-face workshop. Led by expert tutors and developed with MAKE Studios, you will have the opportunity to try novel technologies (from eye trackers to mixed reality headsets) and engage with hands-on making and design thinking activities with other industry professionals.
Workload
This Melbourne MicroCert is taught over four weeks, with one pre-teaching week, two weeks for delivery, and one week for assessment. You will undertake 42 hours of learning, comprising six hours of face-to-face guided learning in a one-day workshop and 16 hours of online guided learning activities and independent research, and 20 hours for assessment.
Digital certificate
Upon completion, you will be?awarded?your Experience Design for Emerging Technologies Melbourne?MicroCert. This?digital?certificate?will include information and evidence of your developed skills,?knowledge and capabilities (as outlined in the learning outcomes). It may also include?artefacts (such as videos and written material) related to both experiential and work-integrated learning, including translatable assessment that is practical to your professional life.
