Lifestyle medicine is a relatively recent discipline that focuses on managing lifestyle-related health problems to prevent and reverse common chronic physical and mental health illnesses.

Critically investigate and assess lifestyle-related disease, including diverse models of care. Throughout your course, you’ll learn to apply theories in psychological, medical, nutritional and addiction science in a variety of health contexts. Complete your studies with a capstone project, where you will apply your understanding of lifestyle medicine to an industry-related issue. This flexible, online course takes three years to complete part-time. With studies indicating that the majority of chronic disease burden is preventable with lifestyle interventions, the demand for lifestyle medicine professionals is only increasing. Graduates of JCU’s Master of Lifestyle Medicine will be sought-after leaders with the skills to improve health care innovatively and holistically. Students who complete the Master of Lifestyle Medicine will be eligible to apply for a Fellowship of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine.

There is an increasingly high demand for lifestyle and public health expertise in almost all health care industries, including primary care and tertiary hospital settings, community projects, industry, not-for-profit and government sectors. Graduates of JCU’s Master of Lifestyle Medicine will have the skills to consult and lead clinical and research programs in a variety of health care settings.
This course provides qualifications to support careers in clinical practice, public health, research, teaching, consultation for health care systems, occupational programs, industry and community programs.
Course learning outcomes
On successful completion of the Master of Lifestyle Medicine, graduates will be able to:
Integrate and apply an advanced and evolving body of clinical and theoretical knowledge of evidence-based biomedical and clinical science and socio-ecological lifestyle determinants of health
Work collaboratively and independently to design, evaluate, implement, analyse and reflect on complex, transdisciplinary ideas and concepts, technologies and interventions that contribute to professional practice or scholarship with a lifestyle medicine approach
Communicate and justify principles, theories, methodologies, therapy concepts, treatment options and professional decisions of the lifestyle medicine approach and research, to educate and engage with specialist and non?specialist audiences, using advanced oral and written English language and, where appropriate, numeracy skills
Ethically lead, model and advocate positive lifestyle behaviour changes with creativity and initiative as foundational to professional practice in healthcare and for further learning, with high level personal autonomy and accountability
Apply mastery of disciplinary theoretical knowledge and knowledge of research and evaluation principles and methods to plan and conduct a substantial project and/or significant piece of scholarship.
For international students
Completion of at least an AQF level 7 bachelor degree in a health discipline from this or another University.
IELTS - 7 (no component lower than 6.5); TOEFL (internet based) - 94 (no component less than 23); Pearson (PTE Academic) - 65 (no component less than 58).
