Bond University’s research degrees are your key to high-level careers in the world of academia and the professional sector.
The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) is a two-year research degree that may serve as a pathway to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). It is your opportunity to add to society’s body of knowledge relating to your specialist study area.
You’ll undertake extended and focussed study on a particular area of research interest or in the development of a creative work.
As a MPhil candidate, you will be part of Bond’s close-knit Higher Degree by Research (HDR) community where you will be supported by a team of academic and professional staff.
We operate a team approach to supervision with each candidate supported by a principal supervisor and associate supervisors who offer expertise in a specific aspect of your project. Working closely together, it is not unusual for supervisors and candidates to be co-authors in publications resulting from the student’s dissertation.
Through our dedicated HDR Unit, you’ll receive administrative support, specialist advice, access to training and funding for expenses related to conference presentations and project costs.
Your faculty will support you by providing you with your own assigned workspace with lockable storage and technical computing support.
The Master of Philosophy develops independent research skills and the ability to relate a specific research topic to a broad framework of knowledge. The program places a major emphasis on independent inquiry (initiative), a thorough understanding of domain specific knowledge, competence in research methodologies and on the ability to communicate research results. This program serves as a pathway to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
Where will your degree take you?
The research industry extends from universities, not-for-profit organisations and government departments to industry bodies and major private enterprises.
The university sector offers particularly varied career opportunities in the research field, with campus-based research institutes and smaller specialist units attracting grants and private sector funding to carry out a wide range of needs-driven research commissions.
Ultimately, you will have the satisfaction of seeing the results of your research being applied in the real world to create better ways of doing and being.
